Within the strategy followed by The Environmental Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) in Abu Dhabi, for conservation of the wildlife, developing and preserving the relevant human and natural culture, The National Avian Research Center (NARC) - in Sweihan, ended its present season for captive breeding of the Asian Houbara bustard, by producing 600 chicks of the Houbara. Mr. Majid Ali Al Mansouri, secretary general of the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi, commented on that event by saying: Any increase in the production will take us a forward step to achieve our dream in the sustainable development for both the wildlife in our country and our natural heritage and culture He confirmed that it is necessary to consider the Houbara capture breeding or any other efforts carried out by the country and its different entities, as important steps for conserving its values that were associated for long centuries with its natural culture. Mr. Al Mansouri confirmed that the success acquired by the captive breeding program during the last years, is an accumulation of consolidating the scientific, cultural and official efforts made thereto. From the beginning all parties recognized the closed relation of that bustard with the falconry sport in the UAE community in terms of environment, culture and community. He confirmed that the Falconry Sport and the ongoing efforts made by the country to conserve such activity, locally and worldwide, target to make it not only a mere sport activity, but is a kind of values that comprise the concept of the sustainable development, that was previously applied and adopted by our fathers and grandfathers either by the parties in charge of the environment or other concerned parties.
